Mangaluru: The Karnataka State Coastal Zone Management Authority (KSCZMA) will be holding a meeting on August 10 at Bengaluru. One of the agenda of the meeting is reported to be the resumption of sand dredging in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) of Dakshina Kannada district.
KSCZMA had ordered a ban on dredging work in the district in June due to concerns of ecological degradation. The ban will expire on August 15.
The district administration here has already sent a report regarding the issue to KSCZMA which will be reviewing the report in its meeting and may permit dredging work to resume from the first week of September.
District In-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary presided a meeting of district officials and officials from Department of Mines & Geology at Bengaluru where it was decided to hold the KSCZMA meeting on August 10 to discuss the issue of sand dredging.
