Parivar Pehchan Patra: What is the new family ID-card launched by Haryana Government?

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday, Aug 4, launched the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP).

Through Parivar Pehchan Patra Haryana government will monitor each of the approximately 54 lakh families living across the state. Under PPP each family will be considered a single unit and allotted an 8-digit unique identification number.

Haryana Government claims that it is mandatory for each family to register themselves on the Parivar Pehchan Patra portal and it has made it mandatory for employees to go for PPP, failing which their salaries may also be withheld.

Unlike Aadhar Card which contains an individual’s details, the new PPP caters to the entire family as a unit.

Also, PPP will be linked to all the family schemes and it is said that it will enable the citizens to get the benefit of various central and state government schemes at their doorsteps in a fair and transparent manner

However, government claims the new PPP will be taken into consideration only for any government service or government benefit but other services such as opening a bank account or a mobile phone, one needs to give their Aadhaar Card.

Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh government are also planning to implement a similar PPP project.
