The deceased have been identified as Suresh (23). The incident took place between 11 pm and 3 am at Sarovara Anjaneyaswamy Temple on August 8.
As per sources nine miscreants trespassed into the Muzrai temple premises and began digging up its floor near the stone pillars. A portion of the temple collapsed and Suresh was crushed to death under the pillar, while two sustained leg fractures and a third suffered severe injuries.
It is gathered that the treasure hunt was not new to this village. Some miscreants had dug up the ‘Kalyani’ area of the temple for treasure a few months ago. Two months ago, there was an attempt to dig for treasure at the same spot where the nine-member gang struck.
