Mumbai: 200 special trains will be run in Konkan originating from Mumbai after the Maharashtra government permitted them due to the Ganesh Chaturthi festival starting on August 22.
The trains will be run by Konkan Railways and Central Railways. Western Railways will also run a few trains to Konkan catering to the demand.
The trains will stop at Thane, Panvel, Chiplun, Ratnagiri and Savantwadi railway stations.
The travel protocol to contain the spread of COVID-19 will be followed during the train journey. Passengers have to come to the railway station 90 minutes before the departure of the trains for thermal scanning and must wear facemask throughout the journey.
Mumbai Bus Operators Association’s president Harsha Kotak stated the 50% of buses are now operating in the Konkan routes, however, occupancy of the buses are still low.
