Bengaluru: Nearly three thousand patients of COVID-19 have died in the State in the last one month.
On Monday, August 17, 115 people were reported to have died from the virus, bringing the total to 4,062. One month ago (July 16), the death toll of those infected had crossed one thousand. Since then, the average daily death toll has bee more than one hundred. Between July and August 17, 3,030 people have died.
In four and a half months (130 days), the death toll in the State had reached one thousand. However, the number rose to four thousand within a month.
In the last one month, 1.78 lakh people have been infected and 1.27 lakh people have recovered from the virus.
Like COVID-19 cases, capital Bengaluru is also leading in the COVID-19 deaths. In the State, about 40 percent of those infected by the virus die, of the 40 percent the city accounts for 36.5 percent.
So far, 1,483 infected people have died in Bengaluru, out of it 900 died in the last one month. The least COVID-19 deaths have occurred in Chitradurga district where only 14 people have died.
The main reason for the increase in death toll is late hospitalization of COVID-19 patients.
Many ignore the symptoms till it turns into severe respiratory problems and coughing. When they arrive at hospital at this stage there’s already lot of damage done to the lungs. Hence, treatment becomes ineffcetive. Even a small infection should be checked without delay, Dr C Nagaraj Director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute Of Chest Diseases said.
In Karnataka, the highest daily death toll occurred on August 16 (124). The State ranks 4th in the country in the number of deaths due to COVID-19, its COVID-19 moratality rate stands at 1.74% and recovery rate is 63.3%.
