Congress in turmoil: How did it all began?

Team Udayavani, Aug 24, 2020, 12:23 PM IST

Amid the ongoing troubles in the Congress party, its top decision-making body will assemble for an online meeting on Monday, Aug 24.

It is said that there were problems in the party when Congress miserably collapsed after losing the Lok Sabha election for the second consecutive time.

The troubles have grown over the last year with both senior and young leaders unhappy with the functioning of the party.

Several leaders have also written  a letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi, calling changes at every level.

Here’s how it began

It began after a meeting of Rajya Sabha MPs with Sonia Gandhi. Rajiv Satav, close aide of Rahul Gandhi, attacked the seniors saying that they had led to collapse of the party

He claimed that the seniors had not supported Rahul Gandhi during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. This angered many leaders of the Congress party and before Satav issued clarification, many leaders took dig at Satav

This led to many Senior congress leaders to demand for a change in the party. They claim that the party is weak and incapable of fighting the BJP.

According to Indian Express, The signatories to the letter had reached out a cross section of Congress leaders before sending it to the Congress president. And even those who did not sign say they agree with the sentiments expressed in the letter.

The Congress will need to arrest the drift if it does not want to lose more leaders to rivals

However, All eyes are now on  CWC meeting. Also, there are speculations that Rahul Gandhi will take over as the president of Congress again
