A Donald Trump supporter’s effort to connect to the Indian diaspora, ahead of the US presidential elections has left Desi Twitter in splits!
In the video, Tomi Lahren, an American conservative political commentator and former television says that Trump is wise as an owl while talking about his resolve to ‘make America great again’.
However, her bid to reach out to the Indian diaspora turned into a laugh riot after she called Trump an ‘ullu’.
While an ullu is the Hindi, Urdu word for owl, in normal parlance it is often used for someone foolish.
The hilarious goof-up is getting several reactions on Twitter. Here are few.
Ullu? Yea, sounds about right. https://t.co/2yLigUhS3U

Can’t stop laughing! OMG
(For those that don’t know, calling someone an “owl” (ullu उल्लू) is a rather strong insult in Hindi. Normally wouldn’t share @TomiLahren but this was too funny.)
Dear Tomi: You said it perfectly, I’ve never agreed with you more. https://t.co/GvS3UEeV5j

Don’t make America “ullu” again ! ? https://t.co/3kSL1c0qem

The literal translation of “ullu” is owl, yes. But in colloquial terms, when referring to a person “ullu” means fool.
The common phrase “ullu ka patta” is similar in meaning and emphasis to referring to someone as a dumbass. ?

Umm. Who’s gonna tell her?
[for the uninitiated, in Hindi/Punjabi an owl (ullu) is not often associated with wisdom but the opposite. “Ullu ka pattha” = an insult] https://t.co/4Owmh6zcvo
