Kasaragod/Mangaluru: A protest was staged on the Kerala-Karnataka border at Talapady checkpost here seeking relaxation of travel rules on the lines of Karnataka.
While Dakshina Kannada district administration has opened all its borders for passengers from Kerala, the Kasaragod district administration is continuing with the pass system for those who commute daily to Mangaluru.
The protestors, numbering around 100, entered Dakshina Kannada in the morning violating the pass rule from the border. Barricades placed at the border were thrown aside during the protest led by Kasargod BJP president Srikant.
Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra on Monday said the rules prescribed in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic have been revised and passengers entering Karnataka from other states need not undergo quarantine and there will be no checks at border points.
The Kerala government, however, is continuing with passes and police personnel are also stopping vehicles for medical check-ups.
