Siddangouda Patil, the first Kannada-speaking mayor of Belgaum, no more

Belgaum: The first Kannada-speaking mayor of the city and a prominent activist in the Belgaum border agitation, Siddangouda Patil passed away at his home in Shivabasavanagar here at around 12 pm on Wednesday, August 26.
Patil (87) is survived by his wife and adopted son.
He started his activism career in 1956 and became a member of the Belgaum City Corporation for the first time in 1984. He was re-elected in 1990 and became the mayor in 1991.
Additionally, he also served as the Director of the Belgaum DCC Bank, for three terms and as the Director of the Karnataka Grahaka Mahamandal for 20 years.
Kannada activists Ashok Chandaragi and Raghavendra Joshi paid their last respects to Patil at his house.
