Yadagiri: Revenue Minister R Ashok stated that the State government has appealed to the Centre to provide Rs 4,000 crore as flood relief and will release the money barring no expense in the reconstruction of flood-damaged areas.

The minister, who arrived in the Yadagiri district to assess the flood situation, spoke to reporters after visiting the Devapur Bridge in Surapur taluk and stated that the central government has already released the second instalment of NDRF money and have asked for the third instalment. The central government is with us. Chief Minister Yeddyurappa-led government will do whatever it takes to address the flood situation.

“Those whose houses have been damaged will be compensated as was done last time. Relief for those whose crops have damaged will be as per the NDRF rule,” he added.

Responding to the query that other districts received the relief that was marked for farmers in Surupur, he said, “We have notified the authorities about it. In case of any difference, action will be taken. Some have not provided proper documents hence the delay.”

On H Vishwanath praising Tipu Sultan, he commented that the view of BJP on Tipu is unchanged. Tipu’s proselytisation and carnage of people in Kodagu are known by everyone, adding that he does not know what was the context in which Vishwanath praised Tipu.

Ashok also stated that it is a fantasy that Vijayendra has embezzled Rs 5,000 crore. No such thing has taken place.
