Bengaluru: A complaint has been filed against Kannada Rapper Chandan Shetty for hurting religious sentiments in his new song ‘Kolumande.’
The complaint has been filed by a Malai Mahadeshwara devotee, Tejas in Cubbon Park in Bengaluru.
The track released on YouTube on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi by Aanand Audio company and had garnered over 3 million views in just three days.
Historians, devotees from Mandya, Mysuru, and Chamarajnagara have shown displeasure on the song as they claimed that the remixed version portrays the characters in a bad light.
Following the outrage, Anand Audio has deleted the video on the platform and the owner of the audio company, Shyam also apologized to the public.
Reacting to this, singer Chandan Shetty took to social media and said, “I apologize on behalf of our team. It is not against any religion or caste. We have done this song with good intention and I admit that way the video was shown was wrong and I apologize for that. But I have not twisted the literature but re-mixed music. We have recorded this song with folk singers.”
“If anyone is upset about this, we apologize. We will change the scenes in the song which are objectionable,” he added.
Chandan Shetty is a popular rapper as well as a music composer in Sandalwood. Recently, his song ‘Kharabu’ for ‘Pogaru’ was a hit and well received by the audience.
