Court sentences cop to 4 yrs jail, Rs 5 lac fine in disproportionate assets case

Mangaluru: A special court in Mangaluru awarded four years of imprisonment to then Beltangady police circle inspector Y Gangi Reddy after finding him guilty in a disproportionate assets case.

As per the verdict announced on Thursday, August 27 the convicted has also been ordered to pay a penalty of Rs five lac fine, failing which he will have to undergo one more year of imprisonment.

A case was registered against Reddy for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income after raids were conducted at his place in August 2009 and property documents, valuing around Rs 19 lakh was seized.

The verdict was pronounced by Lokayukta special court judge B B Jakati. As many as 22 witnesses were examined on behalf of the prosecution.
