Udupi: Govt consents to conduct of Tulunad rituals

Udupi: The Member of Legislative Assembly of Udupi constituency, K Raghupathi Bhat confirmed on Friday, August 28 that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has consented for allowing conduct of unique religious rituals of Tulunad like Daivaradhane, Nemotsava, Mari Puja in the district.

Taking to Twitter, Bhat informed that he had written a letter to the chief minister in the past for conduct of the rituals while adhering to certain-19 protocols like restricting number of persons to 100 etc.

“I hereby appeal to government to allow us to soon conduct the religious ceremonies of Tulunad, such as worshipping the deity, Nemothsava, Maari Pooja,” he said.

Consenting to his request, Yediyurappa directed state Chief Secretory to permit the same.
A copy of this letter has been shared by Bhat on social media.
Amid  the COVID-19 pandemic, the government banned public gatherings and performing religious activities in Temples to curb spread of infection.

While Tulunadu rituals are held on an annual basis, this time it was not possible to perfom due to the lockdown restrictions.

Bhat also requested to grant financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to needy who conduct religious service at these rituals.
