Mangaluru: Kudroli Temple Committee will be seeking permission to celebrate Mangaluru Dasara, which starts from October 17. A petition will be put forth to the government through district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

The Mangaluru Dasara festivities comes next to Mysuru Dasara and has gained immense popularity over the last several years.

Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara temple treasurer Padmaraj said that the committee has over a month’s time to prepare for the festival.

Expressing hope that the government will consent to the request, Padmaraj said that all preparations for Dasara, including the procession would be done in accordance with the guidelines issued by the government.

Further he added that people are facing financial turmoil due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Dasara celebration would help generate much-needed business for hoteliers and others such as the artistes, tableaux owners etc.

Amid the COVID 19 pandemic, the government had imposed restrictions on religious and public gatherings to control the spread of infection. Most of the festivals that were earlier celebrated on a grand scale remained a low-key affair this time around. This impacted several artisans and businesses.
