B’luru & M’luru are hubs of drug peddling: DG & IGP Praveen Sood

Udupi: Director general of police (DG & IGP) Praveen Sood on Tuesday, September 8 said that the police have been permitted to take strict action against drug peddlers in order to eradicate the drug menace from the state.

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a visit to the SP office here in Udupi.

Stressing on the zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, Sood said that the ongoing investigation will be extended to other districts in state as well and will not be limited just to Bengaluru.

“The police are conducting in investigation in the coastal region as well as Belagavi, Chitradurga etc but these do not become news,” he said adding that Bengaluru and Mangaluru are hubs of drug peddling.

Further he mentioned that drug abuse of all kinds namely – soft drugs, natural drugs, ganja or synthetic drugs will be investigated into and discussions were held with officials on measures to control them. We will take action irrespective of how the drug gets peddled into the state – by sea route, air or land.

On the drug addiction problem among college students, Sood said that though colleges are closed it didn’t imply that peddling activities have stopped.

Quizzed about the arrest of Sandalwood celebrities in the drug racket, Sood that he could not comment on the issue as the case is under investigation.
