Why Haryana farmers are angry with the government?

Farmers in Haryana blocked several roads in Kururkshetra district after the state administration refused permission for a pre-planned protest rally at Pipli grain market, on Thursday

The farmers have been protesting against three agriculture ordinances of the Central government

The Union Cabinet had passed three agriculture ordinances in June, the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, and an amendment in the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

The first ordinance allows farmers to sell produce outside the markets notified under the various state agricultural produce market laws

The second ordinance allows farmers to sell their agricultural produce to private players. This Ordinance also attracts a penalty if a business fails to pay farmers on time.

The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 has brought changes into list of essential items whose prices are regulated by the government.

According to The Week, Farmers allege that the ordinances would demolish the conventional mandi system and leave farmers at the mercy of corporates and market forces. They have threatened to intensify their agitation if the government failed to withdraw these three ordinances.

Several  political leaders including Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh have opposed the ordinances
