Bengaluru: A woman who was reported as missing after boarding a Covid ambulance in Bommanahalli informed police that she had voluntarily fled from her house inorder to escape physical abuse.

In a statement given to the police, the 28-year-old woman said that her husband and brother-in-law were abusing her physically for the last few months. She had sought help from a friend to escape the abuse. The woman’s friend came up with the idea of using an ambulance.

Accordingly, the woman hired two men from Bihar, paid for renting the ambulance and also bought the PPE kits from her savings.

On September 4, the duo, hired by her arrived at her residence dressed in PPE kits and claimed to be from BBMP. They said that the woman was being taken for a Covid19 test and later to a quarantine centre.

When her family contacted the quarantine centre they came to know that no such patient was admitted. Subsequently, a missing complaint was filed at Bommanahalli Police station.

On Thursday, nearly three weeks after her disappearance the woman arrived in Bengaluru with her advocate and recorded her statement with the police.

Bommanahalli station Inspector Ravishankar clarified that the ambulance used by the woman was not a BBMP or government one.
