Kadaba: Sister’s query prompted twin brothers to grow paddy in their frontyard

Savanur: Due to declining cultivation of paddy crops many in the younger generation in the Dakshina Kannada district do not know anything about farming and agriculture.
A similar situation was faced by twin brothers Bhuvan and Bhavan when asked by their younger sister where does the rice they eat come from.
For this reason, both brothers started paddy cultivation right in the courtyard of their house at Belandur village near Savanur in Kadaba taluk.
All three are children of Belandur gram panchayat’s former president and director of Belandur Prathamik Krishi Pattina Sahakara Sangha Nirmala and Keshav Gowda.
The brothers are Bachelor of Science students at Puttur’s Saint Philomena College. As they were at home since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic they decided to make good use of the time in cultivating paddy.
Now ready for harvest, the crops will be used by the household for consumption and religious rituals.
With the decrease in the number of people engaged in farming in the coastal areas, the twin brothers have shown that paddy cultivation can still be done even in a small space as a front yard.
Along with paddy farming, the brothers are also growing flowering plants in cement pots and are also raising fifteen goats.
