Mysuru Dasara: Only 2,000 people will be allowed for ‘Jumbo Savari’

Mysuru: The world-famous Dussehra Jumbo Savari parade scheduled to be held at the Palace premises here will have only two thousand viewers.

The decision was taken at a meeting held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Siddharth Nagar here of district officials presided by district in-charge minister ST Somashekhar.

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the grand festival has already been limited to a simple celebration with only the inauguration and Jumbo Savari.

In the meeting, it was decided that only 250 people will be allowed to attend the inauguration and only two thousand will be allowed to watch the Jumbo Savari parade.

Additionally, it was also proposed that only one thousand people should be allowed to watch the cultural performances that will be organized in front of the palace. The proposal has been forwarded to the Central government and after receiving a response from the Centre a decision on it will be made.

ST Somashekhar advised the officials to make arrangements for local artists to have an opportunity to participate in the Dussehra cultural program. He also added that all artists participating in the Jumbo Savari must undergo COVID-19 test five days prior to the festivities.

It was also suggested in the meeting that photographs and pictures showcasing the Central and State governments programs and instruction on the prevention of COVID-19 should be exhibited during the festival. Along with that, a cultural program must be held in memory of musician SP Balasubhramaniam along with the other cultural programs.

The meeting was attended by MLAs SA Ramadas, L Nagendra and Deputy Commissioner BS Sarath, City Police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta, District Superintendent of Police CB Rishyanth and Zilla panchayat CEO D Bharathi, Municipal Commissioner Guru Hegde, Additional Deputy Commissioner BS Manjunathaswamy and others.
