From Oct 1 few modified rules will come into force across country

Manipal: Several regulations will be changed countrywide from October 1. These rules pertain to driving vehicles, sending money abroad and online meets through Google.

1. There will be no need to keep one’s driving license and vehicle’s RC in the vehicle. Instead, its electronic version (soft copy) can be shown whenever required.

2. Using one’s mobile phone for navigation (usage of navigation apps such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze etc.) while driving will be permitted. Speaking on the phone while driving, however, remains illegal, with fines up to Rs 5,000 for violation.

3. All sweet food and bakery food items will have to mandatorily mention use by or expiry date of the products. According to the new rules by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India sweets shops should state till what date their items will be edible.

4. Insurance companies cannot reject the claims of an insurance policyholder who has paid premiums for eight consecutive years. Additionally, companies have to add new diseases to their list of coverage.

5. Sending money and buying property abroad will incur a tax collected at source (TCS) of 5 per cent. According to Finance Act, 2020, one can send $ 2.5 million abroad in a year. TCS will not apply to it.

6. Colors television sets will now attract a 5 per cent customs duty. This was exempted from the past one year.

7. Web-based video conferencing app Google Meet will now allow only 60 minutes for free. Additional hours will be available on payment.

8. The process of obtaining a free cooking gas connection under the Ujjwala scheme ends on September 30. Due to COVID-19-induced lockdown, the last date was extended.
