Cong party workers block roads during protest over farm bills, arrested

Mangaluru: District Congress, on Friday, October 2 staged a protest against the contentious farm bills, passed by the Centre, at Mini Vidhana Soudha here.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, the Congress is staging dharnas in every district across the country in favour of farmers and against the three recently enacted farm laws. Earlier the District Congress offered floral tributes to the statue of Gandhi.
The brutal gangrape of a 19-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras was also condemned and slogans were raised against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath during the protest.
Former District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai expressed dismay on how the UP police manhandled party leaders Rahul Gandhi while he was on his way to Hathras to meet the family members of the victim.
The protesters later staged a sit-in dharna on the roads which led to their arrests.
District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, district Congress president Harish Kumar, former MLC Ivan D’Souza were among the arrested.
