Udupi: The town’s famous radio tower at Ajjarkad’s Bhujanga Park has been reopened for the public on October 2.
Built in 1938, the radio tower was inactive for the past few years. Last year during a program on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha noticed this and ordered for its repair.
MLA K Raghupati Bhat inaugurated the tower on Friday.
Visitors to the park will now be able to listen to radio programs everyday between 5:30 pm and 8 pm.
The renovation of the tower included installing new mikes and radios that will allow only the visitors within the park to listen to the radio programs.
The tower will also be ringing alarms at 8 am, 12:30 pm and 8 pm.
