Attendance must not be made compulsory: DC on phased reopening of schools

Mangaluru: Giving the go-ahead for a phased reopening of educational institutions in the district from October 15 onwards, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Dr K V Rajendra emphasized that attendance should not be made mandatory for students.
The order issued by DC says that educational institutions will have to adhere to Covid-19 norms. “Online education should be continued and those students opting for online education should be allowed to do so. Students who attend schools can do so only with the prior consent of parents,” the order states.
Apart from educational institutions, the DC has permitted use of swimming pools used for sports training; parks and reopening of cinema halls, theatres, multiplexes etc, barring those in containment zones with 50 percent seating capacity from October 15
