Howrah: In a bid to stop the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Nabanna Chalo (march to Nabanna)’ agitation, the West Bengal Police resorted to lathi-charge and used tear gas, water cannon on BJP workers at Howrah’s Santragachi on Thursday.

Visuals from the spot showed the police trying to disperse them with tear gas and water cannons.

Earlier on October 7, Crude bombs were hurled at Panrui market in Birbhum district where BJP workers were assembled for a rally on Wednesday and the police arrested eight people in this connection.

BJP leaders claimed that several persons were injured in the incident and the Trinamool Congress was behind it. The ruling party, however, denied the charge.
