Vijayapura: Incessant rains causes rivers to overflow, villages cut off

Vijayapura: Torrential rains have started pouring again in the district since the night of October 13 threatening lives and properties.
The district administration has a Red Alert as rainfall continues. It also directed officials to start emergency preparations to prevent further any damage caused by rain.
Till Wednesday morning, the district averaged 20.06 mm rainfall.
45.02 mm rainfall was recorded in Sindagi taluk, 42.73 mm in Devara Hipparagi taluk, 33.18 mm in Indi taluk, 29.05 mm in Chadchan taluk, 20.25 mm in Talikote taluk, 19 mm in Vijayapura and Babaleshwar taluk.
As it was raining almost everywhere for 12 hours, all the ditches in the district are overflowing.
The overflowing Doni river has inundated a bridge near Satihala that connects the road between Basavanabagewadi and Devara Hipparagi taluk.
Due to excess inflow of water into the Alamatti Shastri reservoir, over 1 lakh cusecs of water from the reservoir was released into the Krishna river.
Water was also excessively flowing into the Basavasagar reservoir built near Narayanapur on the same river. As a result, 1.33 lakh cusecs of water was left from the reservoir into the river.
has also increased the flow of the river and dumped 1.33 lakh cusecs of water into the river. The Bhima River is also facing heavy flooding and floods.
Bhima river is also overflowing.
