Mangaluru: In a sudden development, Assistant commissioner of Mangaluru sub-division, Madan Mohan C has been transferred by the state government.
Mangaluru Smart City project joint executive director Ravichandra Nayak has been appointed as his replacement.
While the government has justified the transfer, stating that it is implementing an order passed by Karnataka Administrative Tribunal, people have raised suspicion that the officer’s transfer has been done due to pressure tactics exerted by the bauxite lobby.
Madan Mohan, it is said had invited the ire of the bauxite lobby after a team of officials, under his guidance, had raided and confiscated around 30 vehicles involved with illegal bauxite mining.
Notably, the officer was also heading a team, constituted by Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner, Dr K V Rajendra, for submission of a report into the red bauxite business. The deadline for submission of this particular report was October 20.
