Puttur: Shops on fire; Police avert huge disaster

Puttur: A fire broke out at three shops at Boluvar in the taluk in the early hours of Thursday, October 15, which was prevented from spreading after been noticed by a Highway Patrol unit.

Harring Studio Saloon, DK Mobile and a grocery shop was on fire. With the timely action by the on-duty Highway Patrol personnel, firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire in a three and a half hour operation.

The Highway Patrol personnel noticed smoke coming out from the saloon owned by Usman on the Putur-Uppinangadi road. In the meantime, locals called Usman who opened the door of the salon and saw fire inside and in the neighboring shop DK Mobiles, owned by Nishad.

When the firefighters came and tried to extinguish the fire, the flames starting spreading through the roof to the adjoining vegetable shop and two hotels.

However, the firefighters were able to contain and successfully extinguish the fire.
