Due to heavy rainfall, the garbage of the city heaped at Pachanady had suffered landslide and as the result a huge amount of garbage had slid down to Mandara area, destroying houses, property, and agricultural fields a year ago.
Karnataka high court, when hearing public interest litigation filed by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, had ordered the government to permit the city corporation here to pledge its properties to raise loans towards disbursing the compensation due, which has been pending disbursement even after repeated promises.
Following the high court’s order, the government has now released Rs 14 crore towards the disbursement of compensation to the affected families.
It may be recalled that BJP State president and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel along with the MLAs of the district had submitted a petition to the government to release Rs 20 crore, which is the estimated amount of the compensation, to people of Mandara area affected by the landslide.
