Udupi: The 60-year-old dilapidated Kemmannu-Padukudru bridge in the district poses a danger to the lives of boatmen if it were to collapse, said locals while demanding that the officials take necessary steps to demolish it at earliest.
While an alternate bridge was constructed to offer connectivity between Kemmannu and Padukudru, some 15 years ago, officials failed to demolish the old dilapidated bridge.
Locals said that in case the bridge collapses, not only will it pose a danger to the lives of boatmen passing under the bridge but it will also obstruct the free flow of water and movement of boats.
The gram panchayat has already brought this to the notice of PWD officials asking them to demolish the bridge at the earliest.
