Samsung, Stanford researchers jointly develop 10,000 PPI VR display

Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) and Stanford University have co-developed a high-quality display that will deliver resolutions up to 10,000 pixels per inch (PPI) for Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) devices.

A mobile display might achieve only 400-500 PPI in comparison. In future, such displays also called metasurfaces can find use in solar cells and light sensors.

According to Gadgets 360,  the development could be beneficial for devices such as virtual reality headsets, given that most VR devices have a screen-door effect, where the fine lines separating pixels become visible

The research by Samsung and Stanford University aims to offer an alternative to the two types of OLED display that are currently available commercially.
