Monthly average price of potato at ₹39.3/kg, highest in nearly 11 years

The all-India monthly average retail price of potato rose to ₹39.3 per kg in October, the highest in 130 months, data compiled by the government show. The price this October is almost double that of October 2019 (₹20.57 per kg).

As reported by Indian Express, Prices continued to rise steadily during the pandemic induced lockdown in April and May.Reports said one reason for the spike in retail prices is less storage than in earlier years.

Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Haryana are the major rabi potato producing states.
