Kundapur: Boat conducting illegal bull trawl fishing seized by Police

Kundapur: A boat engaged in conducting illegal bull trawl fishing was taken into possession by the police personnel. The Mangaluru-based deep sea fishing boat was found engaged in the illegal activity around ten nautical miles away from Gangolli
It is said that Two boats were engaged in this activity but only one boat was confiscated by the police.Ten fishermen of Andhra Pradesh origin were taken into custody.
Sumalata, Kundapur assistant director of fisheries department, said that based on the report of the Coastal Security Force, report will be submitted to the higher authorities.
Bull trawling
In bull trawling or pair trawling, a net is tied between two big boats and is dragged (trawled) to catch fish. The government has already banned these types of fishing. Despite the ban, some fishermen continue to practice them
