Mangaluru: With no opponent, BJP’s Subhash Shetty was unanimously elected as president of Mulki town panchayat on Friday, November 6.

While the strength of Congress in the 18-member town panchayat stands at nine, it failed to field a candidate against Subhash Shetty as none of the members suited the reservation criterion fixed by the government.

Sathish Anchan bagged the post of vice-president with 10 votes, including that of the MLA and the MP while Congress candidate Puthu Bava secured nine votes.

Meanwhile, the lone JD(S) lady member did not participate in the election process.
