Bengaluru: Newly-elected Rajarajeshwari Nagar BJP MLA Muniratna could face further difficulties in connection with the fake voter ID case.

A Public Interest Litigation was filed by Santosh Kumar and Anand Kumar in the Karnataka High Court seeking CBI probe into the case. The petition was heard by a divisional bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Oak.

The bench directed that a senior IPS officer should be appointed by the State’s police chief to review the investigation of the case by the Jalahalli police. The appointed officer must check whether the investigation is being conducted properly or not. If there are any factors that can be investigated, they should be identified by the officer. Finally, the officer must submit a review report to the court in a sealed envelope by December 15.

During the 2018 Assembly elections, thousands of fake voter ID cards were found in one of Jalahalli’s apartments, as well as the leaflets of Munirtna’s campaign. Two complaints were lodged at the Jalahalli Police Station alleging that Muniratna is involved in the fake voter ID scam.
