Mangaluru: Women defrauded of Rs 14.91 lakhs by anonymous Facebook friend

Mangaluru: A case where a woman was cheated of more than Rs 14 lakhs by a person who friended her on Facebook and then insisted on sending her gifts was reported from here.

The incident occurred in August of this year.

The women residing in city’s Pandeshwar area received a friend request on Facebook from a Rianardo Neal. After she accepted it, the accused requested her contact number and frequently made VoIP calls through it.

Then one day the accused said he is sending her a gift even as she refused it.

On August 25, the woman received a call from a ‘courier office’ and asked her to pay Rs 32,800 for a parcel in her name.

Later, she received another call from a woman ‘customs officer’ in Delhi asking her to pay the customs fees, account update fees and the GST.

The woman later found out that Rs 14,91,840 has been withdrawn from many of her bank accounts.

A case has been registered at Mangaluru Cyber ​​Crime Police Station.
