BSNL subscribers in Karwar receive ‘Welcome to Maharashtra’ SMS

Karwar: In what seems to be a technical error, BSNL mobile telephony subscribers as far as Karwar in Karnataka are receiving ‘Welcome to Maharashtra’ SMSes.
Most mobile telecom providers send an automated SMS to subscribers when they cross State boundaries. These SMSes are usually received after coming almost 5-7 kilometres inside a State.
However, in many parts of Karnataka bordering Maharashtra and Goa subscribers are constantly receiving these welcoming messages.
The SMSes have gone viral on social media websites and have become a cause of outrage by many against BSNL for making Karwar as part of Maharashtra.
BSNL authorities have stated that once they learn of the areas where subscribers are receiving these SMSes they will immediately rectify the error.
A few weeks ago, microblogging website Twitter was showing Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh as part of the People’s Republic of China. After warnings from the Government of India, the American tech giant corrected the technical issue.
