Bengaluru: With Gram Panchayat elections round the corner, the teachers’ association have urged the State Election commission to exempt the teachers who are over 50 years of age and those with comorbidities from poll duty.
The Gram Panchayat elections in the state are scheduled to be held from December 22 to 27.
The teachers’ association said that nearly 50 per cent of the government staff used for election work are teachers, with majority of them aged above 50 years.
Expressing concern over the deaths of teachers, after contracting the virus, while deputed on Covid duty the association will be submitting a request to the Election Commission not to utilise services of teachers above 50 years during the upcoming elections.
