Bengaluru: In wake of the bandh called by pro-Kannada organisations against the Maratha Development Authority, huge security arrangements have been made across the State.

The organisations had warned that their workers will be besieging the offices of deputy commissioners and tehsildars along with the residence of the chief minister and block major State and National Highways in the State.

DGP Praveen Sood has advised all zonal IGPs, SPs and the Bengaluru police commissioner to ensure tight security across their jurisdictions. Deputy Commissioners have also been assigned their respective security duties.

“Pro-Kannada organizations that have called for the bandh have sought any permissions from the police yet. However, if there are any incidents of disturbances, stringent action will be taken against those involved,” State police statement said.

Operators of Ola and Uber cabs have also have supported the bandh.

All of the following will be operational during the bandh: KSRTC buses, BMTC buses, Namma Metro trains, hospitals, medical shops, government offices, ambulance services, dairy shops, newspaper offices, air travel, rail travel, banks, hotels, clothing shops, agricultural markets.

All of the following will not be operational: Ola cabs, Uber cabs, Airport taxis, trucks and other goods hauling vehicles.

Many pro-Kannada organisations in the coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada have also supported the bandh but have not made any calls for it. Hence, the bandh is unlikely to affect these districts.
