Uppinangady: A novel campaign, which seeks to reward those who record and report people involved in dumping garbage by the roadside has been launched by the Uppinangady gram panchayat in the district.

The campaign, aimed at maintaining a clean surrounding was launched a week ago and informants will get a cash reward of Rs 500 if their tip leads to a citation or arrest.

The reward doubles to Rs 1,000 if the informant catches the offenders red-handed along with video proof. So far one person has been rewarded Rs 500.

This campaign was inspired by a recent Kodagu incident in which tourists were made to travel 80km and clear up the pizza box, which they had carelessly thrown on the highway.
