Karnataka’s Belur and Halebidu added to World Heritage Site’s list

Hassan: The world-renowned temples at Belur and Halebidu have been added to the tentative list of World Heritage Sites.

“We had sent a recommendation to add these temples in the list of World Heritage Sites. They have now been placed in the tentative list,” Hassan Deputy Commissioner C R Girish said.

A tentative list is a list of historical and natural sites prepared by a country for inscription in the World Heritage Site list.

“Belur’s Channakeshava Temple, Halebidu’s Hoysaleswara Temple and Somnath Temple in Mysuru district were sent from the State to be added to the list of World Heritage Sites. Two of them have been added to the tentative list which will be sent to UNESCO for consideration,” Girish added.

“The architectural design and historical value of the Belur and Halebidu temples were taken into account for their selection A site management plan of the nominated places has to be sent to UNESCO. A systemic and long-term plan will be prepared and submitted,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
