Bengaluru: For the first time in India, homes for transgender children is all set to be developed in Silicon city. This safe-shelter for transgender kids will be providing all the care and protection needed for transgender children.
The project had also ready been approved by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The supplementary Project Approval Board (PAB) under child protection services states that two such government-run facilities would be established in Bengaluru Urban.
It is a known fact that the transgender community in the country has been fighting the stigma, prejudices and has been boldly moving towards seeking a more inclusive society, many transgender children placed in State-run children’s homes are comfortable and are sometimes subject to abuse.
In order to overcome such problems the Indian Administrative Service officer Pallavi Akurathi, Director, Directorate of Child Protection, came up with the idea to establish separate children’s homes for transgenders.
Shelter homes that will be dedicated to the trans community would help in ensuring a happy childhood, free of violence and bullying, and nurture a sense of belongingness.
Reportedly, the two transgender homes would have the capacity to accommodate 50 children each.
