Bengaluru: Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah and KPCC President DK Shivakumar on Thursday, December 10 marched towards Freedom Park from Vidhana Soudha in to join the farmers and other organizations who are protesting against the Karnataka Land Reforms (Second Amendment) Bill on Thursday.

Due to the protest traffic has been disrupted in various parts of the city while traffic is halted in and around Vidhana Soudha, Seshadri Road, Freedom park, Maurya circle.

The BJP government in the state on December 8 managed to get a land ownership reforms Bill passed in the state legislative council with the support of the opposition JD(S) even as the Congress voted against the Bill.

The Karnataka Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2020 had earlier been stalled in the Council despite the legislative assembly – the lower house – clearing it. The Bill sought to remove Sections 79 A, B and C of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961, which restricted farmland purchases only to agriculturists and to those earning below Rs 2 lakh per annum.
