Belthangady: Ahead of Gram Panchayat polls, it has been a challenge for the officials visiting remote corners of the state to ensure safe voting.

Two days ago, polling officials who visited Banjaru Male area of Beltangady Taluk for inspection spotted wild elephant roaming the streets.

Banjaru Male is located 35 kms from Belthangady taluk and the area is surrounded by forests. It has around 45 houses with 260 voters.

Election Commissioner Raghu, Assistant Election Officer Ajit and others had visited the area for inspection. While they were returning around 1.35 pm, they spotted an elephant near Yenepoya power plant

The driver diverted the vehicle to a nearby road and the officers remained in the spot for one hour before the elephant went back to the forest.
