Udupi: The funeral of Dr Bannanje Govindacharya was held at the Ambalapady crematorium on the evening of Sunday, December 13 with the government’s highest honours.
Before the cremation, the national anthem was played by the police band and the mortal remains was covered with the national flag. A three-gun salute was also dedicated at the funeral service.
District’s Deputy Commissioner G Jagadisha, District Superintendent of Police N Vishnuvardhan, tehsildar Pradeep Kurdekar and BJP’s State president Nalin Kumar Kateel were in attendance and paid their last respects.
Govindacharya’s eldest son Vinaya Bhushan Acharya performed the funeral rites.
