Bengaluru: Employees of the state-owned transport corporation ended their strike on December 14 after the state government conceded to nine of their demands.
The four-day strike not only caused inconvenience to commuters but is said to have resulted losses to the tune of Rs.45 crore to the State exchequer as per a report submitted by the Transport Minister, Laxman Savadi to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa
Even though buses under Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) operated a few schedules under the police protection, the sources say that the strike has hit the corporations badly.
BMTC officials claim to have suffered a loss of Rs.9 crore because of the cancellation of services since Friday. They also added that the average daily passenger revenue is around Rs. 2.6 crore. Around 20 buses were damaged due to stone pelting by the protesters.
