Bengaluru: The Department of Public Instruction is considering cancelling the summer vacation for the current academic year as the State government is likely to decide on the reopening of schools soon.

An official informed that the academic year may officially begin in January. The shortened syllabus will have to be completed between January and July, hence the cancel the summer vacations.

“No classes were conducted this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Preparations have already been done on the revised syllabus pending the final decision. So it becomes inevitable to cancel the summer vacations,” the official added.

“Since the situation is different this year, classroom teaching has to be reviewed. But the teaching needs to be tailored to the age, intellectual and mental abilities of the students. In this regard, a complete reduction in summer vacation is not correct. At least 15 to 20 days of vacation should be granted. Having said that, we will cooperate with the government in whatever they decide,” said VM Narayanaswamy, president of the Primary School Teachers Association.
