Mangaluru: After successfully rescuing an 8-year-old boy within 48 hours of his abduction, Superintendent of Police of the Dakshina Kannada district Lakshmi Prasad on Saturday, December 19 informed that the mastermind in the abduction is still absconding.

Police have arrested six persons: Ranjith (22), Hanumanth (21), Gangadhar (25), Kamal (22), Manjunatha (24) and Mahesh (26) who were involved in the abduction.

“The arrested persons were promised Rs 7 lakhs by the absconding main conspirator,” Prasad told reporters here.

“The motive for the kidnapping will be known only after the arrest of the main conspirator,” the SP added.

Police suspected that the conspirator was acquainted with the family and hence had demanded the ransom amount in Bitcoins. The boy’s father had informed the police that he had in the past invested in Bitcoins but later sold them after their value declined.

Prasad further stated the details of the rescue operation, “We formed four teams who started inquiries in Hassan, Bengaluru, Moodigere and Madhugiri. We received some leads in Madhugiri about people from Mandya and Bengaluru being involved in the crime. Finally, on the night of December 18, we received confirmed information that the abductors are near Kolar and with the help of the local police officials we apprehended the culprits.”

“We have information about the main conspirator and he will be arrested soon,” asserted Prasad.
