Mangaluru: Trio accused of bike thefts, chain snatching incidents arrested

Mangaluru: Mangaluru Crime Branch on December 18 arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in chain snatching incidents and bike thefts reported in the city.
Police recovered four motorbikes, two mangalsutras from the possession of the arrested persons, who have been identified as Habib Hasan alias Abbi (39) of Chambugudde in Mangaluru, Abdul Mannan alias Abdul Munaf (21) of Moodupadukodi in Bantwal and Mohammed Thousif alias Shailu Munna (28) of Hiriadka in Udupi.
A report regarding a chain-snatching incident was registered at Padupanambur in Mulky police station limits on December 9 and another case was lodged in Suratkal police station limits on December 18.
While Habib Hasan was involved in both chain-snatching incidents, Abdul Mannan was involved in the chain-snatching incident at Mulky and Mohammed Thousif in the Suratkal incident.
The police have recovered the stolen mangalsutras worth Rs.2.25 lac and three mobile phones from the trio. The motorcycle used by Abdul Mannan for committing crimes has also been recovered. All the seized items are estimated to be worth Rs.5.19 lacs.
On further probe, it was discovered that Habib and Thousif stole motorbikes from different locations and used them to commit other offenses.
Habib is found to be involved in chain snatching and cattle theft. There have been around 20 cases registered against him in Barke, Moodbidri, Suratkal, Ullal, Konaje, Bajpe, Vittal, Bantwal Town and Karkala Rural police stations.
Another accused, Abdul Mannan has been involved in murder, dacoity, rioting and has around ten cases registered against him at Ullal, Barke, Kankanady, Urwa police stations. Thousif is found to be booked in an attempt to murder and dacoity at Mangaluru North and Mangaluru East police station respectively.
The arrest happened under the directions of Vikash Kumar, Mangaluru commissioner, under the guidance of DCPS Hariram Shankar and Vinay Gaonkar. The team was led by Mahesh (PI CCB), Pradeep TR, PSI CCB and the staff of CCB
