Beltangady: GP candidate dies after consuming pesticide mistaking it for medicine

Beltangady: Two days ahead of the counting of votes for the Gram Panchayat polls, a candidate lost his life after consuming insecticide meant to be sprayed on grass.
The deceased Jayanth Prabhu (58) hailing from Kavalamudoor Agartyaru, mistook the insecticide for the medicine he was taking for mouth ulcers.
Prabhu was the immediate past member of Kavalamadoor gram panchayat and he had even contested in the gram panchayat election as a Congress-backed candidate.
He had been elected twice in the past and had been elected as the vice president of the panchayat for one term.
Reports state that Jayant consumed Trycord, an insecticide on the night of December 21. He even cast his vote in the election that was held the next day.
Although he fell ill at night, following which he was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru where he breathed his last.
Former minister B Ramanatih Rai, Bantwal, block Congress president, Baby Kunder, and Zilla panchayat member B Padmashekhar Jain paid respect to the lost soul.
