Kalaburagi: The family of a 3-year-old girl who died in jail after being arrested with her mother in connection with a post-gram panchayat poll violence protested outside the district hospital’s road here.

After the conclusion of the election, there was a fight between the families of winning candidate in the gram panchayat election Raju Talvar and losing candidate Santosh Talvar at Jainapur village in Jevargi taluk.

Later the police arrested 10 people that included the losing candidate Santosh, his brother Ravi and sister-in-law Sangeeta.

Sangeeta’s three-year-old daughter, Bharati, came along with her to the jail.

Bharati fell ill and died later after being admitted to the hospital on Saturday, January 2.

The family members of the girl and supporters of Santosh then sat on a protest outside the hospital with Bharati’s dead body.

They allege that Sangeeta was beaten and pushed by the police causing injury to Bharati as well and have demanded that police officials responsible for her death should be suspended.
